Mercedes To Over Ride Audi To Usurp The Luxury Brand Tag

Mercedes-BenzBANGALORE: Mercedes-Benz has come up with strategies to sell their cars in large number in the budding car market of India. This step would give the German car manufacturer an upper hand against the adversary Audi and become the no.1, reports Reuters.

Recently, Mercedes introduced a facelift edition of its entry-level hatchback – the B-Class. They are looking forward to amplify sales by two fold with such cars. In 2014, compact cars made 20 percent total sales.

According to the Delhi-based Emerging Markets Automotive Advisors director Deepesh Rathore, “What has helped (Mercedes grow) is the launch of new products at the bottom of the pyramid, and that is where customers are going to enter the segment in the future.”

He further added, "This is probably the year when Mercedes would be able to overtake Audi."

Mercedes’ plans to bring in 15 cars this year which will be the highest number ever launched in India till date.. This time, the German automakers will be open for 15 dealerships and they have invested close to 10 billionrupees giving it the pass to produce 20,000 vehicles locally in a year.

Back in 2013, Audi took over BMW as the most sold luxury producer and this was possible because of the elevated sales of A4 and A6 sedans.

Joe King, head of the carmaker’s India unit quoted, “A3 compact sedan, launched last year, is expected to keep growing”.

Senior associate at consultant IHS Automotive, Puneet Gupta spoke on this, “Audi has always been very aggressive but given Mercedes' focus on compact cars, and it is on the right track to give Audi a tough fight."
