Merc Launches 'Edtion 1' Versions Of Its Hatchbacks

BANGALORE: Celebrating the success of its hatchback models the A-Class and the B-Class in India, luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz launched ‘Edition 1’ versions of both cars. Limited to only a 100 units each, the A-class and B-class special editions have been aggressively priced at 26.17 lakh and 28.75, reports the Hindu.

Mercedes-Benz India vice president Boris Fitz said, "The launch of A and B-class in India was a very significant and strategic decision. Today the success of these two products not only signifies the aptness of our decision, but also underlines the maturity of the emerging young customers."

The newly unveiled variants have gone through few cosmetic changes on the outside that include glossy black wing mirror housings and decals with Edition 1 lettering. Both the models get new-design alloys but there are no changes made in wheel or tyre sizes. Some of the additions on the inside include electronic adjustment and memory function for the front passenger seat, rear seat center arm-rest with cup holders, a reversing camera and panoramic sunroof.

This special edition of the A-Class and the B-Class hatchbacks is available only on diesel variants and gets additional equipment over the regular A 180 CDI and B 180 CDI variants.

When it comes to mechanicals, based on few customer feedbacks received by the company about the ride height not suiting the Indian roads, Mercedes has raised the ground clearance on all its 2014 models of the A and B class including the Edition 1 variants.

On the engine front, the A and the B- Class editions are powered by the 2.2-litre diesel unit that churns out 109bhp and 250Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via the 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox.
