Meet the Guys Who Put Themselves "For Sale"

BENGALURU: The social media was abuzz with a guy called Aakash Neeraj Mittal over the past two days. Aakash, an IIT Kharagpur graduate and the author of “It wasn’t her fault”, had a rather unconventional (in mild terms) idea to apply for the product manager’s job at Flipkart. He decided to put himself up for sale on the ecommerce company for the modest price of 27,60,200 only. He wrote “When you are a 6-pointer and competing with best of the best minds of the country, you know how hard it is to land a job. You start doing some crazy and random stuff to stand out from the crowd. This is my resume for Flipkart’s APM Profile.” But, the management at Flipkart weren’t that impressed by Aakash’s candid, albeit unusual idea. You might think of this as some sort of publicity gimmick, but Aakash is not the first one to do so and surely not the last. Here is a list of other likewise guys, gathered by Business Insider, who uploaded their own profiles on ecommerce sites “for sale” and a few of them were even successful.

David Wood

45 year old David Wood from Bristol, UK, put himself up for sale on eBay at £35,000 back in 2011. David had been writing about 30 job applications every day for two years, to no use. He reached a point where “where every avenue has been exhausted” and received an eviction notice from his home. It was at this juncture, the idea of selling himself on eBay “as a last ditch attempt to get an employer’s attention” came to his mind. His advert on eBay read, “For Sale an Experienced Sales Representative” and portrayed himself as a “1965 model, enthusiastic and motivated”.
