Within a week of the official release of the video, it got over 3.5 million views on YouTube and over 1 million shares on Facebook. Besides, on 24 November 2011, the song ‘Kolaveri Di’ was the first ever Tamil film song to premier on MTV. YouTube honoured this video track with a '"Recently Most Popular" Gold Medal award and "Trending" silver medal award for getting a large number of hits in a short span of time.
