It is one of the best places in India to celebrate Independence Day with dance and parade. Built in 1648 by Emperor Shah Jahan, this historical monument accommodates a number of museums and a garden. It was recognized in 2007 as UNESCO World Heritage Site along with the Salimgarh Fort. On 15th of August, the Prime Minister hoists the Indian tricolor flag at its main gate and delivers the Independence Day speech from the ramparts.
