# "Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm-Ravaged Hospital" by Sheri Fink

The writer, Sheri Fink, is a doctor turned journalist.

She has been to many places of conflict, diseases and struck by adverse situations. Stranded at Memorial hospital, extreme steps were taken by the medicos present there as the facilities were all bad.

Windows were broken to circulate the air, as generators failed; power grids failed and people cramped the hospital with all kinds of sufferings amidst the gunshots outside. With Hurricane damaging everything fruitful, the evacuation of patients from the hospital seemed to be impossible.

The book narrates the struggle of medical professionals and the pressure on the medicos to push them to such extent that they take extreme steps, giving fatal injections to those who are dying with no hope of getting to a proper medical facility amidst the hurricane.

Shrei Fink won a Pulitzer Prize for her investigation of these events in a 2009 joint assignment for ProPublica and The New York Times Magazine. This book is an extension of her report.
