2016 Ford EcoSport Revealed, Gets Cosmetic Changes & Updated Diesel Engine

BANGALORE: The Ford EcoSport has been a clear winner on many counts in the Indian market but it has not had the same success story in the European markets as it is considered to be a car that lacks appeal, cheap and on the whole not a complete car. Going by these customer suggestions, Ford Europe planned to give it a tweak and has revealed the updated 2016 EcoSport, which now gets few cosmetic changes on the outside, even more up market materials on the inside and most importantly an updated diesel engine, which is even more responsive, reports, The Indian EXPRESS.

The biggest change in the 2016 model comes under the hood as the 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine now churns out a maximum of 95PS as compared to 91PS earlier. The company claims that this change in output is said to improve the car’s performance slightly not drastically and make it even more responsive, while also being fuel efficient.

On the outside, the 2016 model gets a reworked front and rear bumper with silver inserts and also a blue day light LED DRLs which makes it look even sportier. The other great news is that, now customers get to choose whether they want the door mounted spare wheel or not. And for those who don’t want, will get a redesigned rear-door and a tyre repair kit. Well I still feel the door-mounted spare wheels looks hot!

On the inside, the updated models doesn’t get any changes in the design but gets even more up-market materials with a black-and-dark-grey tone which makes it even more premium and classy when behind the steering. The central console buttons which was quite confusing now gets replaced with a simpler interface along with a larger multimedia screen integrated with navigation and rear camera display system.

The bad news is that, though the EcoSport that gets sold in Europe is manufactured at Ford’s India plant, it is not known when the updated 2016 model will be launched in India as the company is busy gearing up for its three new car launches in India that include the Ford Figo Aspire, 2015 Ford Endeavour and the new Ford Figo.
