World's Least 'Livable' Cities 2014


Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire:

The former capital of Cote d'Ivoire as well as the country’s principle city, Abidjan is one of the largest French-speaking cities in the world. So, if you plan to move to this economic hub in West Africa, then brush up on your French - there are more French-speaking people in Abidjan than in Montreal.

Though things flourished during the reign of Felix Houphouet Boigny, after his death, the country unraveled into political unrest, draged Abidjan down with it.

Its stability is one of the lowest on the index thanks to crime and the city is very isolated. Its health, educational and entertainment features hover around the average mark, but it scores well for its nearby natural assets.


Douala, Cameroon:

The largest city in Cameroon and the economic capital of Cameroon, Douala is one of the least livable cities in the world.

In this city, food prices have increased considerably by as much as 20 percent, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization. In 2008, rising food and fuel rates led to riots and looting in Douala.

As per the study, Douala scored very low in healthcare and education .
