# Haiti

Haiti declared its independence in 1804, however two years later, its first Emperor, Jean Jacques Dessalines was accused of corruption and murdered by his own citizens. Not much has changes over the years. The 2010 earthquake worsened the situation, and the death toll was particularly high because of damage to illicit structures. Aid campaigns after the earthquake did not have much effect either, as the attempts were mostly hindered by pervasive government corruption.

# Iraq

After Saddam Hussein, many thought that the conditions in Iraq could only improve. However, under the current leaders, the supplies meant for citizens, like fuel, electricity and water have vanished because corrupt Iraq’s Shiite leaders. "Corruption mafias that seem to spread through the establishment like an octopus" said Osama al-Nujaifi, the head of the Iraqi Parliament.
