Tales Behind The Festival of Colors

Another mythological story related to Holi is that of Lord Shiva and Parvati. It is believed that after Sati died, Lord Shiva got angry, did Tandav Nritya and then meditated deeply. The entire world was under chaos without the supervision of Shiva, the almighty. Hence, Sati took the Avatar of Parvati and came to calm down Lord Shiva.

Unable to break his meditation, she asked Lord Kamadeva, the Hindu God of Love for help. Being shot by the arrow of love, God came out of his trance but that burnt Lord Kamadeva into ashes. It is said that it was the auspicious day of Holi when Lord Shiva came out of his deep meditation to care of his children and devotees at the cost of Lord Kamadeva.

Legend of Radha and Krishna is the most favorite and popular among people and that is the reason Holi is also known as the festival of love. Krishna, the avatar of Lord Vishnu and Radha were deeply in love with one another but Krishna was sad about his complexion and used to compare it with Radha’s. Krishna’s mother Yashoda consoled him and said that if he will apply color on Radha’s face even her complexion will change. Naughty little Krishna played the prank and put colors on Radha. Since then, this festival colors and love is continuing and making the bonds stronger among people.

Hope you all celebrate a safe and secure Holi that is full of colors, love, happiness and positive thoughts.
