INS Visakhapatnam: Things To Know About India's First Stealth Warship


# The ship is shaped to be a stealth destroyer and it is 65 percent Indian made with several missiles and building parts made in India.

# The ship will be equipped with Israeli Multi Function Surveillance Threat Alert Radar (MF-STAR), which provides target information to Barak-8 missiles.

# There will be 32 Barak- Long range missiles from surface to air, the missiles are being jointly developed by India and Israel.

# The ship has rail-less helicopter traversing system to secure the helicopter it carries in heavy sea conditions.

# The sonar will be bow mounted on the Visakhapatnam and will feature a revised bridge layout.

# The ship will be armored with 127 mm main gun and has AK-360 close in anti-missile gun system, same as in the INS Kolkata.

# Compared to the INS Kolkata, the mast in INS Visakhapatnam, which features the main radar is redesigned.

# Also the ship is equipped with Ship Data Network (SDN)- Automatic Power Management System and Combat Management System. All the critical information during warfare will be available to key officers through SDN which the Navy defines as a data information highway.

# The INS Visakhapatnam will be christened the name when it is being inducted in the Indian Navy in July 2018, the remaining three ships will be ready in two year time.
