India Home to 2.3 Crore Malnourished Children: Study

There are estimated 16 crore children of ages up to 6 years in the country as per the 2011 census. It is believed that out of this number at least half of them attend anganwadis according to the government records through various programmes. These anganwadis fall in the pooere section of the socirty and most don’t have access to even this downcast schooling

According to the programs laid out by the government, the anganwadis look after the chikdren and give supplementary nutrition and also are tasked to weigh the children once a month and keep a record of it.

According to TOI’s reports there are 13 lakh anganwadis and that these anganwadis use two types of weighing machine. One is a pan type weighing machine and the other is a hook type that is hooked onto a garment or belt.

Even thought children in these anganwadis are given extra supplements and nutritional valur they don’t put on weight and thus are still subjected to malnourishment. In many states, the quality of food given to children is very bad and they may not be eating it, according to AR Sindhu of the Anganwadi Workers' Federation. "Often this is the case where food provision service is outsourced to NGOs," she said to TOI.

This great nation will rise to its complete potential and capability if it addressed these internal and ugly issues along with the prospect of global economical growth.
