Here are the Billion Dollar Space Projects And Missions

NASA Space Shuttle Program:

Approximate Expenditure: $196 Billion

This Space Shuttle program which was designed in 1972 included 135 missions. This mission which used six space shuttle orbiters exploded two of its orbiters, Columbia and Challenger, killing 14 astronaut deaths. This program is one of the horrifying projects as well.

However, the final space shuttle launch occurred only on July 8, 2001 when Atlantis was sent into space and it landed on July 21, 2011. As we can see the number of years this project took to launch the cost incurred in this while is huge and mostly unintended. When the project was first pitched, NASA expected the program to cost only $43 billion when adjusted for inflation in 2011. But the unexpected scenarios splurged the numbers really high.
