From Airtel Zero To AIB: A Timeline Of How Net Neutrality Debate Sparked In India

TRAI issues a 118-page long document known as the ‘Consultation Paper on Regulatory Framework for Over-the-top (OTT) services’. Among other things, this consultation paper concerns net neutrality in India; particularly how it affects users and the technology marketplace. The paper asks for public commentary on the issue with the deadline for comments set at April 24.

Airtel launches Airtel Zero, a platform that allows cutomers to access the apps participating on it for free. It very quickly drew criticism from activists and internet users for violating net neutrality.

Flipkart was reportedly in talks with Airtel as a participating app on the Airtel Zero platform. A tweet from the Flipkart founder defending the platform did not go well with consumers who down voted the Flipkart app on Android to a one star rating.
