2. Raman Lamba, Cricket

Raman Lamba was an Indian cricketer who played in four Tests and 32 One Day Internationals. Lamba died on 23 February 1998 at the age of 38 in the Post Graduate Hospital in Dhaka in Bangladesh after he was hit on the temple by a cricket ball while fielding at forward short leg.

The shot was so ferocious that the ball deflected from his head and flew into wicketkeeper Khaled Mashud’s gloves. Although the injury did not appear to be particularly serious, Lamba suffered an internal hemorrhage and slipped into a coma.

Although a neurosurgeon was flown in from Delhi, all efforts were in vain. After three days his ventilator was removed and Lamba was declared dead.

3. Marco Simoncelli, Grand Prix

Marco Simoncelli was an Italian professional motorcycle racer who died at the age of 24. On 23 October 2011, Simoncelli was involved in a collision with American rider Colin Edwards and fellow Italian Valentino Rossi during the Malaysian Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit.

Simoncelli was struck in the lower body by Edwards and in the head by Rossi, in the course, he lost his helmet and Edwards was catapulted from his bike.

Edwards suffered a dislocated shoulder and severe injuries and was taken by ambulance to the circuit's medical centre. In less than an hour after the accident, it was announced that he had died from his injuries.
