World's 6 Smartest Cities in 2014


BANGALORE: Today, with various forms of advancements, the world is developing at the speed of light. Recently, a study conducted by the IESE Business School in Spain entitled ‘Cities in Motion Index’ ranks the world's "smartest" cities. To establish the ranking, researchers studied 135 cities across 55 countries, and based their results on over 50 indicators across 10 different dimensions including governance, public management, urban planning, technology, environment, international outreach, social cohesion, mobility and transportation, human capital (ability to attract talent), and economy. Here are the names of the smartest cities as compiled by the aforementioned index.

Oslo: The Norwegian capital, Oslo considered as a global city is known for its high quality of life. This city is an important place for various industries especially the marine industries in Europe. It is among the top ten smartest cities in the world in an index.

The city of Oslo has committed itself to reducing its energy consumption with the aim of becoming one of the cities with the lowest energy consumption per resident in the world. Among its strategic projects is the reduction of energy consumption by 50 percent as well as a reduction in the maintenance costs of the urban lighting network. Oslo is considered a global city and ranked "Beta World City" by the Globalization and World Cities Study Group and Network.
An important centre of maritime knowledge in Europe, this city is home to approximately 1980 companies and 8,500 employees within the maritime sector, some of which are the world's largest shipping companies, shipbrokers, and insurance brokers.
