Women Account for 40 Pct Of Suicides In Paramilitary Forces: Report


BENGALURU: National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPRD) released a report, which suggests 40 per cent of suicides in Central Paramilitary Forces are committed by women although they represent only less than 2 per cent, reports Times News Network.

The data was collected from BSF, CRPF, CISF and other paramilitary organizations. According to the report, 175 people committed suicide out of which 73 of them are women.

The suicide rate among women is more in central forces than in general population. Even men suicide rate is less when compared to suicide rate of men. This suggests that women in these units face a lot of stress than men.

The reasons to suicidal activities are different as it involves non-settlement in marriage, extra-marital affairs and dowry cases, while in some circumstances, the reasons are unknown.

The data also reveals that among 29 states and 7 UTs, all the female suicides are concentrated in only four states, which are Madhya Pradesh with 40 per cent of suicides, Telangana, Bihar and Jammu & Kashmir following.
