Will Carry Forward Make In India Drive Of PM: Supriyo

NEW DELHI: The new Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Babul Supriyo, today said he will carry forward the 'Make in India' drive of Prime MinisterNarendra Modi and work towards reviving industries in West Bengal.

"Here lot of scope is there to work. Several PSUs are there in West Bengal and from my side we will try to do the best for them. In the light of Prime Minister's Make in India, I think this ministry has a different relevance today," Supriyo told reporters here while assuming the charge.

He said the ministry would also work to achieve the goal of making India as a manufacturing hub.

Challenges in the Urban Development Ministry were different and here it will be different, he added.

Talking about West Bengal, he said big industries are not there in the state and "this is definitely a challenge for me. But one should not make big promises on day one itself. But I will try my level best for the state".

He also said "passing the buck game is going on in West Bengal for quite some time. This should not happen....There are some reasons due to which some heavy industries have either on the verge of closure or not functioning properly. So we will try our best to revive those".

"So that is going to be my single point agenda to see how much I can contributes towards heavy industries and meet the expectations of Bengal on a Bengali Minister irrespective of me or anyone else," he added.

When asked whether coming to this ministry from Urban Development is a demotion or promotion, he said: "Do not see this as a promotion or demotion. Some ministers are being trolled on social media, which is not good".
