Will 'Brand Rahul' Work?

Bangalore: Do politicians own up responsibilities? Often not, rather they would love to put the blame on someone else. But then, there is a different scenario in Uttar Pradesh where of late, we see a rush of Congress leaders trying to cover the heir apparent, Rahul Gandhi and say, “Blame me, not Rahul if we lose UP.” Where did all the confidence go? The party had been flying high on Rahul’s intense campaign and its local leaders have been living on dreams of regaining its long lost glory in the state.

However, there seems to be a different line of thinking among the leaders and their over-emphasized confidence on brand Rahul have gradually died down. Though Digvijay Singh, the mentor of Rahul Gandhi, still holds on to hopes of winning 100 pulse seats, refuses to put the blame on Rahul if Congress fails in UP. “Me not Rahul Gandhi should be held responsible if election results in Uttar Pradesh are not in favour of the party,” Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said. Digvijay said he as the AICC general secretary in-charge of the party affairs in UP and the PCC Chief Rita Bahuguna along with the candidates are to be held responsible in an event the Congress party doesn’t perform as expected. UPCC chief Rita Joshi also talked in the same lines saying she was the state unit chief and she is the one to be blamed for any bad show.
