Uber Soon to Come Up With Mobile Wallet Payment in India

BENGALURU: Looking at the growth of taxi users in India, the American based online and mobile taxi service firm Uber, is all set to add up new online payment options to its users, if the pertaining report of the ET is to be believed.

Uber, which is ranked after OLA, have the highest number of taxi customers, as it operates in 22 cities in the country, is now planning to take its business to the next level. As per the report, Uber has applied for a license from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to add up its own wallet option in its mobile app and website.

Currently Uber users have a few payment options such as paying physical cash, Paytm money, and Airtel money. But this move by the company is to gain the upper hand in the market against its rivals. Uber sees India as a lucrative market and wants the country to be its second biggest base after U.S.A, by taking the urban population of the country into the account.

Though top cab service firms like Uber and Ola are tied with app wallets like Paytm and Mobiwiki, they are now planning to upgrade with their own wallet, as OLA is also rumored to have applied to the semi-closed wallet license. But the RBI guidelines do not allow marketplaces to possess closed wallets, but there are provisions to apply for semi-closed wallets. Which offer digital payments through merchants and Uber has planned to link this advantage with its drives which, allows them to receive money through the online.
