U.S. Dismisses Report Of American Plot To Oust Hasina

DHAKA: The U.S. embassy rubbished a local media report quoting Indian intelligence sources that American agencies hatched a plot to oust Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's ruling Awami League.

"There is absolutely no truth to this story," a spokeswoman of the U.S. embassy in Dhaka told the private BDnews24. com, a day after it carried the report titled 'Major U.S. operation to oust Hasina'.

The U.S. denial of the report came as spokesperson Monica Shie said the report was "discussed internally".

She said Dhaka and Washington DC "enjoy a strong friendship and close cooperation on a wide range of issues including countering violent extremism, building our trade relationship while improving worker safety, and enhancing regional economic engagement".

"We look forward to further broadening and deepening our bilateral relations at our annual Partnership Dialogue, scheduled for October in Washington, DC," she said.

The BDnews said that "Indian intelligence officials say they have unravelled a U.S.-funded move to topple Hasina's government in Bangladesh and "weaken the Left regime in Tripura.”
