# Volcanology of Iceland

The eruption series that started on August 17, 2014 under the Bardarbunga system, started with an extremely heavy earthquake swarm followed by clusters of volcanic activity that have been going continuously sincethen. This resulted in multiple lava fountain eruptions in Holuhraun.

The eruption has emitted large volumes of sulphur dioxide and impacted air quality in Iceland.  Lava flow is between 250 cubic meters per second and 350 cubic meters per second and comes from a dyke over 40 km long.

On December 25th a new earthquake sequence was recorded at Geysir geothermal field 140 kilometres to the West of Bardarbunga, the activity lasted for two days and nothing has been recorded since then.
