Predecessors of Arun Jaitely And their Revolutionary Budgets

BENGALURU: Union Budget is the most important document formulated by the government in the beginning of every financial year.

From Chanakya to Amratya Sen of today, from times immemorial India has been blessed with some brilliant minds who greatly contributed to the World Economy. However budgeting has never been tough like how it was during Independence with minimum funds and resources.

Here are ten such Finance Ministers listed by Indian Express, who drove the Indian Economic Cycle on the difficult terrains.

Morarji DesaiMorarji Desai: The then Finance Minister of India who holds the record of drafting as many as ten budgets—eight annual and two interim budgets, during his tenure. He tops the list of Indian FMs with ten budgets. As we all know Morarji Desai was the first Prime Minister to run the country’s first non-Congress Government. A staunch Gandhian by nature, Desai is well versed with economy as he was in the Jawaharlal Nehru’s government, then under Indira Gandhi as well. His contributions to the Indian nuclear program are remarkable and Desai was the only Indian minister to receive Pakistan's highest civilian award, Nishan-e-Pakistan. He closed down much of India's premier intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) to reduce the budget on its operations.
