Operation Myanmar: Know How Indian Army Wrapped Up Rebel Group in 45 Mins

BANGALORE:  Indian Army’s commandos accomplished a surgical operation in the depths of Myanmar putting several militants to death. The convert operation marked the Indian initiative to pre-empt insurgent groups spreading terrorism. "We would keep up pressure on them," one senior officer said, pointing to probabilities of insurgency-wracked off the border operations, reports ET.

Dissimilar to the information reported, an army source mentioned, "There was no heli-drop. It was a one-night, ground operation. We couldn't have carried out a heli-drop because that would have alerted the militants." The commandos were dropped beforehand by helicopter at a closer proximity to the border.

On the night of June 8, 20-25 commandos gained access to a penetrable border fence and intruded into Myanmar. The rebel groups were staying in two camps and the distance from the border to the point of approach was traversed by  crawling to avoid exposure.

25 soldiers of the 21 Para Special Forces (SF) battalion fought against the rebel group for 45 minutes at a stretch. These SF commandos were previously settled in Jorhat, Assam, and nearby areas and were under Operation Hifazat in the Nagaland-Manipur-Arunachal Pradesh area. "They are trained for such operations, so the turnaround wasn't very long," said one source.

The commandos of the battalion were on the go for this operation as they received information from intelligence sources that the area was being inhabited by militants of the NSCN(K), MNRF (Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front), PLA (Peoples Liberation Army of Manipur) and UNLF (United National Liberation Front). "Inputs clearly said that some militants in the camp were involved in the attack on our troops in Chandel last Thursday," one source said.

Ponyu area is presently colonized by the NSCN(K)'s 3rd brigade. The cadres from the same fought against soldiers of Indian Army. In addition to this, Aungzeya was a base for about 25 militants which belonged to different groups. "There was little resistance. We almostc surprised them," said a source. "The militants didn't expect India to cross the border, that barrier has been breached."

It has been more than 24 hours since the operation ended and yet, there hasn’t been any confirmation of the exact count of deaths. Army sources reported of 20 deaths and several wounded- 11 seriously and 15 mildly injured.
