No Special Hierarchy For App Based Cabs

sdBENGALURU: All app-based taxi drivers in India are to be treated equally, government said. The government has prepared model guidelines for all taxi aggregators operating in India, treating them as any other taxi providers and not just technology platforms, according to indiatimes.com.

The government has not yet issued any guidelines for these app-based cab companies. However, they have explained that these app-based cabs should be treated as normal cab and there shouldn’t be any hierarchy in that. This statement by the government will clear the air for states to form their own rules, treating them at par with other cab fleet owners.

The Delhi government on January 1 had ban the operation of app-based cab services till they complied with the guidelines of Radio Taxi Scheme of 2006, which was amended on December 26 of last year. The scheme was amended after a woman executive was allegedly raped in an Uber cab in December last year. The January 1 order was challenged by Ola before the high court, which on July 29 had passed an interim order upholding Delhi government's decision.

The taxi aggregator sector is already facing a raft of problems with state governments cracking down on it for issues ranging from the kind of vehicles they operate to driver verification. This problem is faced just because the Ola, Uber, and TaxiForSure cab drivers continue to argue that the norms for normal taxi operators do not apply to them.
