Nirbhaya Fund Doubled And 6 more AIIMS Institutes

NEW DELHI: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley Saturday doubled the budget of the Nirbhaya fund to 2,000 crore from 1,000 crore.

"The government is committed to safety and security of women, and another 1,000 crore has been allocated to the Nirbhaya Fund," said Jaitley while presenting the Union budget.

The 1,000 crore Nirbhaya Fund was announced in 2013 by the previous Congress-led UPA government for the empowerment, safety and security of women and girl child.

Six more AIIMS like institutions will be set up in the country, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said Saturday.

Presenting the union budget in parliament, Jaitley said these would come up in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh and Assam. Bihar would get a second institute modelled on the lines of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

"Keeping in view the need to augment medical services in Bihar, I propose to set up another AIIMS like institution in the state," he said.
