Net Neutrality: "savetheinternet" E-Mail Campaign Hits 1 Million Mark

BANGALORE: TRAI has set a deadline of April 24 for Netizens for the submission of their views as to on which side of Net Neutrality they stand. The date is here and TRAI is going to have a busy few days to sort out the opinions of 11 lakh Indian opinion polls, reports TOI.

The save the internet campaign which started two weeks ago by a group of net neutrality supporters has hit the one million mark on Thursday at 12.42 pm.

The coalition of net neutrality group through its twitter handle @bulletinbabu tweeted "Emails to TRAI: 1000029 (+55) via www.savetheinternet.in #SaveTheInternet. We have achieved #MillionMailMission!”

“By May 8th TRAI is expected to put the responses to net neutrality on its website for counter comments” said Kiran Jonnalagadda who runs the savetheinternet.in and netneutrality.in websites with a pack of volunteers and developers.

He further expressed his fear as to whether the e-mails will be considered as a single e-mail or one opinion.

If it was a  normal situation where at most 100-200 people respond to the TRAI consultation papers, the committee could  make the required recommendations in two –three weeks. But with over 11.8 lakh responses it might take till June or July for TRAI to take it in order and give a verdict.

From the 11 lakh responses most of them were from the metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune, but also people from places like Chandigarh and Jaipur have joined in making it a perfect national response.
