Most Beautiful Coral Reefs In The World

BANGALORE:  Coral reefs are some of the most beautiful places in nature. But nowadays, due to pollution, many reefs once home to many varieties of fish are now disappearing. Below is a list of the most isolated and pristine reefs where you can snorkel, scuba dive or just swim along to see the colors of nature, compiled by worldin1001views.com

The Great Barrier Reef

It is the largest coral reef in the world, roughly parallel to the coast of Queensland, Australia, for almost 2,000km. It was declared as a World Heritage area in 1981 and it was added to the National Heritage List in 2007. There are more than 2800 catalogued reefs in the area.

It is threatened by pollution, but is still the largest of the world’s 552 World Heritage Areas, covering more than 347,000 kilometers.  The Great Barrier Reef has the most diverse marine life in the world, with some of the rarest species like Black Marlin.  With contrasting color combinations and clear waters, it has a beauty that photographers and artists visit to capture.

The Palancar Reef, San Miguel de Cozumel, Mexico

Palancar Reef is located around an island in the Caribbean Sea east of Mexico’s Nocompren Peninsula.

Back in 1960, world-famous Sea Explorer Jacques-Ives Cousteau discovered and presented to the world the incredible beauty of the reefs on the southwest coast of Cozumel as one of the best diving places in the world.

The reef consists of a platform 60 to 100 feet deep full of interesting coral formations and. This platform ends at an almost vertical cliff which goes all the way to the bottom of the sea, more than 1300 feet all around the island. Many large sea mammals can be spotted here, as it’s one of the most visible reefs in the world, with visibility extending to 160 feet.
