Modi's Three Nation Tour: Expectations Versus Aspirations


BENGALURU: Is it to resolve bilateral trade issues or to invite investors? Is it to revamp the lost glory or to gauge the Chinese potential? What exactly does Prime Minister Narendra Modi expect from his upcoming visit, which is likely to be a historic visit to China? India’s foreign policy is known for its continuity rather than change—the Nehruvian model. For China, India has always been both an irritant and a foil—a strategic irritant but also a strategic foil. It is perhaps this fact that kept China away from India. Modi’s visit to China could bring more clarity on China’s stand on India.
