ABU DHABI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi and also interacted with Indian workers at ICAD city.
Modi, who arrived here earlier in the day on a two-day official visit, visited the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates.
"Memorable moments recorded for posterity. PM @narendramodi takes a selfie & writes about the visit in the Guest Book," tweeted external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup, and also posted pictures of Modi at the mosque.
Modi later went to the ICAD Residential City, a labour camp housing about one lakh migrant workers from India and other countries of the sub-continent.
Modi interacted with a select group of Indian migrant workers.
The ICAD camp, which spans about 14 sq km, is also known as the ICAD Workers' Village, and was built three years ago for workers.
"Reaching out to the heart of the Indian community. PM @narendramodi visits the ICAD city to meet Indian workers," tweeted Swarup.
The PMO tweeted: "Team India in UAE, interacting with PM @narendramodi."
The UAE is home to 2.6 million Indian workers, of who around around 20 percent are white-collar professionals. Indian expatriates comprise 30 percent of the UAE's population and are the largest nationality group.
Indians in the UAE are the largest remitters globally, and sent $12.64 billion to their country in 2014. India is also the third largest source of tourists travelling to the UAE.
