MS Dhoni Lone Cricketer On Forbes' 'Highest Earners' List 2014


BANGALORE: Indian cricket team skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the only Indian cricketer to figure in Forbes’ list of world’s 100 highest paid athletes, which is otherwise, conquered by football, basketball, boxing and tennis players. The figure take account of salaries, bonuses, prize money, appearance fees, licensing and endorsement income between June 2013-2014.

MS Dhoni has been ranked 22nd in the list with total earnings of $30 million and endorsements worth $26 million. According to a recent report, Dhoni is the highest individual tax payer in Bihar and Jharkhand region paying 20 crore income tax in the year 2013-14. The Hindustan Times reported that the brand value of Dhoni had surged 60 percent in the past four months. He is currently endorsing 21 brands including the likes of Spartan Sports and Amity University.

“Dhoni cemented his legacy as one of India’s best captains of all time when he led the Indian national team to victory in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and became the first national captain to ever win all three ICC trophies,” the publication said.

The first place on the list is adorned by the heavyweight boxer Floyd Mayweather who has earned it all from salary/win and not from any kind of endorsements. Tiger Woods, the golf legend tops the list of athletes minting money through endorsements with a total of $55 million.

Other athletes featured on the list include tennis player Maria Sharapova (34), Jamaican runner Usain Bolt (45), tennis player Serena Williams (55) and Formula One racing driver Sebastian Vettel (83).
