Lost in the Maze of Time: 9 Places not on the Indian Map Anymore


BANGALORE: The Indian subcontinent has been a cradle for numerous civilizations and cultural influences, which in turn has scripted the evolution of modern day India. From the ancient Indus Valley Civilization during the Bronze Age to the opening of the sea routes with Europe initiated by the arrival of the Portuguese in the 15th century, the documented history of India is testament to the accommodating nature of the ancient land. This has resulted in places that got lost in the deceptive maze of time to be found only in the history journals and folklore.

So we decide to collate a list of 9 places that were once as real as the people who walked those lands.

Kurukshetra

Depicted as the battlefield in the epic Mahabharata, the existence of the land of Kurukshetra has been documented in Puranic literature. The place is reknown in the annals of history as the site of the battle for succession between the rival families of Pandavas and Kauravas. Located in the modern state of Haryana, Kurukshetra has numerous sites that have been dedicated to the Mahabharata war. A large metal chariot named Shri Krishna Arjun Rath has been placed at the Brahma Sarovar, a holy pond in Kurukshetra that is dedicated to Lord Brahma.
