India Scores Low on Women Advancement Index


Bangalore: India is the weakest among its neighboring countries when it comes to employment and workforce participation said a survey that was conducted recently, reported Rhik Kundu for TNN. It is followed by Pakistan.

The country that is leading on the MasterCard Index of Women's Advancement is Nepal which has a score of 92.0 when it comes to the proportion of women in the country’s overall workforce. The country in fact has the lead among the markets in South Asia with a score of 55.0.

Nepal is followed by Bangladesh with a score of 45.5 which is in turn followed by Sri Lanka with a score of 43.8. India and Pakistan seem to score the least with 38.0 and 23.0 respectively.

However, when it comes to education, India has a better fare than Nepal with a score of 79.3 while the latter stands at a 73.4. Sri Lanka leads the list here with a score of hundred and is followed by Pakistan and Bangladesh with scores of 87.9 and 82.8 respectively.

On the other hand, India stands much ahead of Pakistan when it comes to the index for the leadership of women. While India stands at a 15.9, Pakistan has a score of 3.5. The leading score on this parameter is by Nepal with a score of 38.4. India is closely followed by Bangladesh which stands at 15, and Sri Lanka standing at 12.6.
