India Must Gear Up To Cyber-Terrorism

Shantanu Ghosh, vice president at India Product Operations-Symantec corporation, which developed Norton AntiVirus, said, "The past few years have witnessed a dramatic shift in the threat landscape. The motivation of attackers has moved from fame to financial gain and malware has become a successful criminal business model with billions of dollars in play. We have now entered a third significant shift in the threat landscape, one of cyber-espionage and cyber-sabotage," reports IANS.

In a city like Bangalore, known as the IT hub of the country, this cell which was set up in 2001 has not reported any single convictions till now. This, in a way indicates how poorly the cells execute its task when it comes to such cases.

Roopa, the officer heading the cyber cell in Bangalore, stated, “A majority of complaints pertaining to hacking and tampering, coming under various sections of the Information Technology Act, reach a dead end because servers of these websites are located in the United States and there is no cooperation from the other side,” reports Rediff.

If necessary measures are not taken sooner by the concern department, then a day is not far when Indians will completely come under the cyber attackers each and every time one log-in to any websites.
