Govt Blocks 2 Facebook Pages for Communal Threats and Alerts


BENGALURU: The Government of India banned two Facebook pages that were in aim and content luring youngsters to participate in the Jehad protest. The admins of the pages have is yet not identified. Both the pages were being used by Islamic State (IS) for a mission in the country.

Threats of internet on the cosmopolitan composition of India was discussed by a committee formed by top notch officials of Intelligence Bureau, home and information technology ministries, CERT-In (cyber security prevention body) and other investigative agencies. They focused mainly social media sites spreading terror and shocks.

The two pages that have been blocked were controlled from Kashmir and were just a few weeks old. The pages had information and data about making bombs, carry out lone-wolf attacks and other Jehadi training modules.

On similar grounds, the government has already blocked around 55-60 websites.

Experts from intelligence agencies now meet every month to discuss these kind of threats from social media.

Early in 2015, on CERT appeal almost 26 websites & URLs were blocked due to communal alerts & threats.
