Citizens of Akodara are Living a Hassle free Life in the Current Cash Crisis

BENGALURU: Whole India is struggling to fulfill cash demands after the demonetization call by the government. The main reason behind the suffering is the unavailability of small denomination notes. However, there is a village named Akodara in the Sabarkantha district, Gujarat whose citizens haven’t faced any of such problems of standing in long ATM queue. The Economic Times reached to that village and reported about how people are effectively managing their daily needs in the current severe note crisis.

The residents of Akodara village are relying on cashless transactions. They are using virtual payment systems instead of cash to fulfill daily needs. The kirana shop owners are selling goods by clicks over the phone. The main point to note is that residents here are selling everything from milk to vegetables in the local market without exchanging a single rupee. They are using SMS mobile banking to make payments up to 5000.

Akodara is just 90 km away from Ahmadabad with a total population of about 1200. ICICI bank adopted this village in 2015, as part of Narendra Modi’s Digital India initiative. The representatives of ICICI bank went all over the village to train citizens of all age groups about the modern banking facilities.

The bank also helped in digitization of government schools and the Anganwadi center of the village. ICICI bank equipped the schools with smart teaching and learning solutions like, computers, tablets, smart boards, and smart classes. Internet services are provided to the citizens on a subscription basis with the help of WiFi. The residents of the village rarely hold cash. Therefore, the only ATM in the village has no queue. Akodara is a proof that if government and the private sector work for the welfare of the nation then the life of the citizens will surely be transformed.
