Bangalore's ATM Attack Triggers Safety Measures Across India

Bangalore: The most recent case in Bangalore where a woman was allegedly attacked with a machete in an ATM kiosk is an eye opener to the security lapses that are seen in many ATM kiosks in the country. Till date, since there are no RBI guidelines on the security measures at prominent banks’ ATM in the country, the ATMs in the capital city and other part too poses a serious threat, reports Suhas Munshi of TOI.

Earlier this year in Delhi, there was a report about a private company executive who was brutally beaten and robbed inside an SBI ATM in Connaught Place. A man disguising as a security guard hit the victim hard with a rod, forcing him to disclose his card details.

The situation is particularly dire at night when desperate criminals can strike at will. Although some of the public sector banks have come up with an access control through the customer's ATM card, the system fails to operate at most of the ATM kiosks. On top of this, there is no such panic button or alarms where the victims can alert at times of danger.
