'A Historic Step': INS Vikramaditya Adds to India's Military Might

BANGALORE: Prime Minister Narendra Modi still remains the cynosure of all eyes when it comes to developmental work. In his first ever defense visit, INS Vikramaditya is dedicated to India, and entitled to make the nation self- dependant in manufacturing of defense equipment and not relying on imports, exclaimed PM Modi onboard Vikramaditya.

Procured from Russia, the 44,500 tonne, India's most powerful warship and the 20-storey tall INS Vikramaditya is the newest and largest ship to join the Indian Navy. India's largest and most powerful aircraft carrier which significantly enhances blue water capabilities of the Indian Navy has an overall length of about 284 meters and a maximum beam of about 60 meters, stretching as much as thrice the size of soccer field put together. Commissioned by the then Defense Minister A.K. Antony last November, the sheer sight of this mega structure of steel is wonderfully inspiring.

PM after dedicating INS Vikramaditya to the nation addressed navy personnel on board and said India will not be intimidated by any power "but would engage with all nations as equals". Modi also pitched for self-reliance.

Modi, who spent nearly four hours on the mighty INS Vikrmaditya off the Goa coast, said that the warship's addition to the navy was "a historic step" and a golden chapter in the history of India's maritime security.
