Justic Anna Chandy: the first female judge in India

An inspiring example for all the women in the country, Justice Anna Chandy was the first female judge in India. In 1926 the Trivandrum born Syrian Christian girl became the first woman in her state to get a law degree. She worked as a barrister from 1929 and concentrated on promoting women’s rights through her Magazine ‘Shrimati’. She has also served as the Kerala High Court judge from 1959 to 1967, which makes her first female judge in an Indian high court.
