5 Surprising Things More Expensive Than India's Mission To Mars

Film 'Gravity':

Mangalyaan, India’s interplanetary project was launched in November 2013 at an estimated cost of $72 million while the superhit English movie ‘Gravity’ was reportedly made at an estimated $100 mn.

It is a 2013 space adventure film directed, co-written, co-produced and co-edited by Alfonso Cuaron. It stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts, and sees them stranded in space after the mid-orbit destruction of their space shuttle and their subsequent attempt to return to Earth.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a June visit to mission control in Bangalore said, "Our program stands out as the most cost-effective."
"There is this story of our Mars mission costing less than the Hollywood movie 'Gravity.' ... Our scientists have shown the world a new paradigm of engineering and the power of imagination."
