Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi

The current Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has named the third most followed world leaders on twitter according to the study. He was the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 till 2014. After his election in May 2014 the social media has widely accepted the Indian PM and there is a huge difference in the number of followers he has.

He has begun a campaign to reform and modernize India's infrastructure and government, involving reducing bureaucracy, encouraging increased foreign direct investment, improving national standards of health and sanitation and improving foreign relation. With his foreign visits in the recent times and Make in India and Digital India campaigns Modi is trending in the social media portals, which makes him one of the most popular world leaders.    

Pope Francis

Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected as the 266th pope of the Roman Catholic Church in March 2013, becoming Pope Francis. He is the first pope from the Americas. Prior to his election as pope, he has  served as archbishop of Buenos Aires, as cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church of Argentina and as president of the Bishops' Conference of Argentina.

 In 2013 Pope Francis was named as the person of the year by Times Magazine. He has been involved actively in areas of political diplomacy and environmental advocacy which makes him the second most followed world leader with a following of 19,580,910 people on his nine different language accounts.
