5 Groups Voicing Their Concern Of Society Through Music


Gaddar:

Gummadi Vittal Rao, also known as Gaddar in Telangana as well as Seemandhra states, was born into a lower caste family in the then AndhraPradesh. Initially, Gaddar performed street plays to educate people about government programs before protesting for the cause of separate state of Telangana as well as upliftment of lower castes in the region. Gaddar, through his motivational songs tried to spread the ideologies of separate state among the masses.

Swarathama :

Swarathama is one of the leading folk rock bands in India today, founded by Vasu Dixit and Abhinanth Kumar in Mysore in 2002. Swarathama came into the mainstream, when they won the Radio City live 2006 and never looked back henceforth. Most of the songs produced by this group are socially concerned and first among them was ‘E-Bhoomi,’ which is about the mother nature. ‘Pyaasi’ is an another song speaking about the importance of water and our ignorance towards preserving it. Recently it was in 2012, they released a protesting album  ‘Topiwalleh,’ a comprehensive album, speaking about the political ignorance towards the development of the country.
