5 Great Cricketers And Their Early Professions

#Shane Bond

Shane Bond is the former New Zealand cricketer and present bowling coach of the New Zealand national team. Undoubtedly, he is New Zealand's best fast bowler since Sir Richard Hadlee. His fastest recorded delivery was clocked at 156.4 km/h against India in the 2003 World Cup.

But do you know, what is the secret behind his aggressive bowling? It is due to his past profession as a Policeman. From 1999 to 2003, Bond was a constable in the New Zealand police.

Shane Bond once said, "I never thought I'd play for New Zealand so I joined the police and thought I'd play during my holidays. I had the security of knowing that if I was injured I'd just go back to work. While I was in the police, I had to deal with a lot of uncomfortable situations. You're just thrust into them and you've to deal with crime and victims of crime,” reports The Times of India.

#Nathan Lyon

Nathan Lyon is a lead spinner in the Australian cricket team. Lyon was a member of the ground staff team at the Adelaide Oval after completing a four-year apprenticeship at Manuka Oval. It was Darren Berry, a senior most Queensland cricketer, who found a worthy spinner in a ground curator.

Nathan Lyon played his first test in Australia at the Gabba starting on 1 December 2011 against New Zealand in the first Test match of the series. Lyon took 4/69 in the first innings and 3/19 in his second innings resulting in match figures of 7/88, being adjudged the best test match bowling figures by an Australian off-spinner at the venue.
