Cellular Jail (Kaala Paani):

Cellular Jail (Kaala Paani) in Port Blair, Andaman is among the oldest prisons in India which has witnessed brutality of Indian freedom struggle. The detention center was built in 1906 under the British rule to put rebels in lone confinement and to keep them inaccessible from the outer world. In early 1930s, inmates led by a freedom fright Mahaveer Singh called out a hunger strike in jail against the ruthless treatment of prisoners. Today the whole prison stands as a national monument since 1969.
