2-Way Trade Between India And United States Poised For 'Exciting Times': U.S. Official

KOLKATA: 2-way trade between India and the United States is poised for "exciting times" at this juncture and has scope of increase in bilateral trading volumes, said an U.S. official. "This is an exciting time of trade between India and the U.S.

There is a huge possibility of increasing bi-lateral trade between the two countries. Economies are huge and so the opportunities of cooperation are endless," U.S. Foreign Commercial Service's newly-appointed Principal Commercial Officer (PCO) Matthew Hilgendorf said.

Both the countries have opportunities in almost every segment and scope of cooperation is endless as both countries have huge economies, the official told reporters on the sidelines of a seminar on Non-Financial Reporting organised by ICC and Indo-American Chamber.

Hilgendorf, who took over from Richard Craig as the PCO on September 3, was earlier posted in Chile. "This is my first visit to Asia. In fact I have not visited any other cities of India and have come straight to Kolkata from Doha," Hilgendorf said.

Talking about the areas where his office would like to work on, the official said "We will be concentrating on the north-eastern region of India".

He said "We want to support the development in areas such as mining, transportation, energy, manufacturing and some services where the US can have an important impact in this region."
