BANGALORE: India became an independent nation on August 15, 1947. The Indian army forces guarding the vast land, water, and aerial borders of India are renowned for their courage and valor. Their motto has always been "do or die.” Our soldiers have never surrendered.  It’s the Indian soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag. Here are 14 amazing facts about our Indian army.

Fact 1:

Indian army is the third biggest army in the world, after China and the United States of America. It has around 11, 29,900 active personnel and over 9, 60,000 personnel in reserve, out of which 1, 60,000 are part of the Bharatiya Territorial Army. However, only 40,000 report for regular duty.

Fact2:

It is recorded that Adolph Hitler, the Nazi leader and one of the greatest dictators ever, expressed his desire to acquire the Gurkha regiment because he believed that he could have acquired the whole of Europe, as it was the only force in the whole world that could fight and withstand a German attack.

Fact3:

The Baily Bridge is the highest bridge in the world. It is located in the Ladakh valley, between Dras and Suru rivers, in the Himalayan Mountains. This great piece of engineering wonder was built by the Indian Army in August 1982.
