'Cineplay' By Nandita Das, Husband Subodh Maskara Goes To New York

MUMBAI: Actress Nandita Das and husband Subodh Maskara are now geared up to take their theatrical experiences packaged into cinema to the Museum of Moving Images (MOMI) in New York.

CinePlay, a new genre of cinema that presents stories from theatre founded by entrepreneur Maskara and creatively mentored by Nandita, is scheduled for a screening at MOMI on October 25.

The husband-wife actor duo also star in the CinePlay titled "Between the Lines" written by Nandita Das and Diya Jagdale. "It is a great honor to be screened at MOMI. After the love we have been receiving in our country, we are excited to present CinePlay to the world," Maskara said in a statement.

"This is only the first of the numerous screenings being planned across the globe. The idea will always remain to present the wonderful and relevant stories from Indian theatre to a large audience," he said.

"Between the Lines" is a contemporary play set in urban India where well-educated, affluent couples enacted by Nandita and Subodh find themselves caught between modernity and tradition.

The screening is set to be followed by a session moderated by noted author Suketu Mehta. The Museum's Chief Curator, David Schwartz said,"We are thrilled to be hosting Nandita Das and Suketu Mehta at the Museum for the first time, showcasing Nandita's new, thought-provoking work."

Recently, the MOMI had also presented a tribute to actor Om Puri hosted by Madhur Jaffrey with a screening of the film "The Hundred-Foot Journey." With five productions completed and another 12 in the pipeline, the firm says it has a vision to "bring forth strong stories from theatre in a cinematic form to the world."
