YMCA or Young Men’s Christian Association is one of the most popular non-profit organizations in the world. Founded in 1844, London by George Williams with the purpose of “the improving of the spiritual condition” of young men engaged in the drapery, embroidery, and other trades.  Since then, it has been helping and responding to communities for almost 170 years. It is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland and operates centers in North America, Europe, and Africa. With an operating budget of almost $6 billion, the YMCA is the most powerful and well-known non-profit organizations on earth.

Annual Budget: $4,422,814,987

Catholic Charities is one of the largest charities in the United States, with headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. They provide services to millions of people a year through activities, such as housing, health care, and disaster relief. Its mission statement can be found right in the slogan which is “Working to Reduce Poverty in America.” More than 1,700 agencies, organizations and institutions have joined the Catholic Charities network. Catholic Charities leverages its $4.4 billion budget, out of which $2 billion comes from the Faith-Based Initiatives Office of the federal government.

With a $4.1 billion operating budget, United Way is one of the most well-funded and organized non-profit organizations.
