Modi's "Buy India" Pledge: Indian Firms Bank On Defense

The PM had recently unveiled a Navy ship built by India at the Kolkata based and hoped that many more will be added, which are manufactured by Indians. The question remains if Indian private firms will be able to bring the Indian defense to the modern age with lack of world class technology. India is hoping to revive the long used soviet era equipments which are putting the Indian Army at risk of depleting equipments.

The problem in India is the implementation and also the commitment of the government because not long ago the government after calling for the manufacturing of combat vehicles scrapped the plan which was worth $10 billion. The inconsistency of the government to abide by their policies is the biggest worry for them as reported by Reuters.

This lethargic spirit of the government will hopefully not intervene with future plans and the “Buy India” Pledge will allow the companies, who are pouring in billions of dollars to actual complete their manufacturing plans. Apart from all this PM Modi has also voiced concern on DRDO not meeting deadlines and delaying on manufactures which are causing extra expenditure.

This is a new era in India’s Military campaign and also a test to see if India has the potential to manufacture weapons that are war ready for the country in the long run.
