Meet India's 10 Richest Business Tycoons 2014


Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman of Arcelor Mittal, who now owns 97, 000 crore has risen to the top five of richest Indians.

Azim Premji of Wipro at 86,000 crore, came fourth in the richest list followed by his counterpart HCL’s Shiv Nadar, who saw his wealth rise 41 percent to 78,000 crore. Others like SP Hinduja of the Hinduja Group and Pallonji Mistry of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, who is also the largest individual shareholder in Tata Sons, made it to six and seven, respectively.

Kumar Mangalam Birla, who saw his wealth rise by 16 percent this year hitting 61,620 crore is the youngest individual in list of the richest.

Sunil Mittal is gaining reasonable recognition with consistent growth in his wealth at 51,000 crores.

Also included in the list are eight manufacturers, proving that India’s manufacturing sector is the main source of income for the nation, followed by pharmaceuticals and real estate. The manufacturing sector is ever growing since liberalization, with the service sector not far behind.

Mumbai, India’s financial capital, remains as the home of the rich with 70 billionaires, followed by Delhi with 37 and Bangalore with 23. Lakshmi Mittal, SP Hinduja, Anil Agarwal, and Prakash Lohia stay in the UK, while Micky Jagtiani of Landmark Group and Feroz Allana of IFFCO have made UAE their home. The rest reside in Mumbai.

According to the Hurun Report, 67 percent of Indians are self-made billionaires, as opposed to China’s 99 percent.
